Grzegorz Stańczyk is a distinguished Polish illustrator and writer, born on September 12, 1947. He began showcasing his artwork in 1967, and his illustrations and stories have graced the pages of numerous esteemed publications, including Ty i Ja, Przekrój, Poezja, Szpilki, Polska, Forum, Orientacje, Odgłosy, Wiedza i Życie, Projekt, Fantastyka, Tygodnik Solidarność, and the German newspaper Die Zeit.

Stańczyk's artistic contributions have been featured in numerous exhibitions both in Poland and abroad, earning him widespread recognition. In 1977, he was awarded the second prize by the Polish section of IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) for his illustrations of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales.

His distinctive artistic style often explores themes of dark surrealism, science fiction, and macabre humor. With an imaginative and unsettling visual language, he crafts thought-provoking narratives that captivate viewers and readers alike. This unique approach has earned him acclaim for his ability to weave fantastical worlds with layers of emotional and philosophical depth.

His creative universe was also captured on film. In 1973, director Maria Mrozek produced the short documentary Światy Grzegorza Stańczyka (The Worlds of Grzegorz Stańczyk), which received the first prize at the Zakopane Festival of Art Films in 1974.
